Pattycake app prototype

UX/UI Design, 2023

The original concept for “Pattycake” was a baking app that provided recipes based on what the user had in their kitchen. When I learned there are already apps that do that, the scope of the project expanded. “Pattycake” stands apart from other apps because of its robust filtration system, easy ingredient substitutions and conversions, and simple design.

An interactive prototype is available here.

The process

First, I conducted a survey and five interviews to learn about people’s baking habits.

I used the data I collected to create a persona, experience map, and empathy map.

Insights from the persona allowed for the creation of “how might we” statements. My peers reviewed these and I expanded upon three of them.

I used eight insights from the previous step to create a user-driven card sort, storyboard, and paper wireframes noting expected user flow.

The moodboard for the app had a splash of old-fashioned and a splash of modern, all presented in a fresh, appetizing way.

The branding captures the spirit of the moodboard.
